DroidFresh - A new report from The Daily Dot on Wednesday claims that sources familiar with YouTube’s future strategies, mentioned YouTube would be looking to shift some things around and refocus their live streaming efforts to take on eSports and game streaming. This rumor follows in the wake of YouTube’s failed attempt to snatch up the current leader in online game streaming and eSports, Twitch, which Amazon later acquired. Now that YouTube wasn’t able to buy their way into the industry which is reportedly only going to continue growing not only in popularity but also monetarily, YouTube will have to go at it by engineering and developing their own platform for the same available services.
While YouTube has not officially confirmed or denied these rumors, according to one source at The Daily Dot. “Gaming and esports in particular are going to be a big driving force for the new-look YouTube Live.” This suggests that YouTube is indeed working to redesign the YouTube Live appearance as well as what it offers to viewers. Another source mentioned that in the near future there would be some “huge opportunities for established streamers and organizations,” also implying that once Google enters into the space that viewers of eSports will be growing quite considerably.
Details about the newly refocused service are somewhat sparse, but YouTube is reportedly already looking to recruit engineers for the vision of the new YouTube Live experience. There’s no mention of how many people would be brought onto the team and dedicated to this project, but the source claims that the number of engineers currently sits at 50, and that all of them have some level of expertise in the streaming industry. The report also mentions that YouTube could end up announcing official plans for the revamped YouTube Live sometime during the E3 expo this summer, which happens in the month of June, so if there is going to be any word on whether or not there is truth to these rumors, it could happen then, although YouTube is part of Google so it could just as well happen at the annual developer conference too which seems just as appropriate.
